Dr. Marlowe Haskins -MD, CCFP

Dr. Haskins attended medical school at the University of Calgary and completed his family practice residency in Newfoundland at Memorial University. He then spent time doing extra surgical training in Vancouver to become a GP surgeon.  He practiced in Hazelton for 11 years before moving to Smithers in 2003 with his family. He practices full-scope clinic medicine, as well as maternity care, ER and in-patient coverage and some surgical procedures. In his spare time he enjoys adventures with his now grown children, travelling, working in foreign countries, trail running and snowboarding.

Dr. Kalah Blackstock -MD, CCFP

Dr. Blackstock spent summers tree planting in BC before attending medical school at the University of Saskatchewan. She completed her residency training through Rural Alberta North -Red Deer (University of Alberta) before moving to the valley in 2016. She practices full-scope clinic medicine, as well as ER and inpatient coverage. She also has a special interest in palliative care and remote medicine, and continues to fly up to Inuvik for short locums when she can. In her spare time she enjoys skiing, crafting and playing with her dog, and she has recently begun learning how to whitewater kayak.

Dr. Mallory Quinn  -MD, CCFP, BScH, BHKin

Raised here in the valley, Dr. Quinn is very excited to have returned to her hometown. After a Life Sciences degree from Queen's University and a Human Kinetics degree from UBC, she completed medical school in the Northern Medical Program through UBC/UNBC, and residency through Rural Alberta North -Grande Prairie (University of Alberta). She practices full-scope clinic medicine, as well as ER and inpatient coverage. She also has a special interest in sports medicine. In her spare time she enjoys xc skiing, hiking, fishing and cooking, and is currently teaching her dog to skijor. 

Tara Henry

With just over a year and half here in Smithers from Vancouver, Tara is one of our newer team members! Tara has committed most of her early adult life to the hospitality industry, more specifically to pastry and baking in restaurants around Vancouver, Calgary, and Smithers. She has a mini me named Scarlett and Harrison and puppy named Barry with her husband James. Her hobbies include movies, reading, housewives, and spending time with her family. We are happy Tara has decided to make this career change and become a part of the Northern Roots team!

Dorothy Webster

Born and raised on the outskirts of Quesnel on a working cattle ranch and agricultural farm, her family sold their ranch and business and relocated to the Bulkley Valley in 2010. Dorothy has always had interest in the medical field and she loves being able to here to help people where she can.
Her hobbies include horses, rodeos, fishing, and anything outdoors with her high energy husky puppy, Luna, and her boyfriend, Devon.


Dorothy has been a great addition to our wonderful team here at Northern Roots. 

Meet Junko,

Our newest member here. Junko was born in the Philippines, growing up in Japan. Junko then moved to Vancouver in 2007 and then relocating finally to here in the Bulkley Valley in 2019!

Junko is very busy with being a family of 6, 2 dogs, 2 rabbits and a flock of chickens!
Junko loves being indoors but love her flower garden in the springtime bloom and spending time in there.
She is very excited to be here for your needs here at the clinic and we are excited to have here.
 
Junko also specializes in lash and nails, as a technician, she can help you take some me time!

Janice Shearer (RETIRED)

Janice retired in September 2019 after working with Dr. Haskins for 15 years. She has now relocated south and is looking forward to putting her energy towards her various passions, and some big travel plans. We will miss you Janice!

Verena Briker-Schwegler ( Always part of our team, but has moved on to start her career)

 

Verena has taken a wonderful opportunity to start her journey in her medical career as of December 2021. She will always remain as a part of this clinic however, she is very busy with her education. We are all very proud of her for taking this opportunity and pursuing her life goals.
